Life Here And There: John Piper says “Let Christians Vote As Though They Were Not Voting”

  • Jeremy Bohall · 1 year ago
As a follower of Jesus with a passion for "doing missions when dying is gain" I'm a John Piper fan. That being said, I couldn't disagree more:

Yes, we are to focus on Christ. But this life we've been given must be dedicated to worship! Worship can be sharing the gospel, giving a cup of cold water to someone in need, letting our actions back up the faith we claim. Our vote in the upcoming elections is an extension of that. The lives of others in and outside of our country can be directly impacted by our vote.

I understand Piper's point - I really do. I just believe that while we're on this earth everything we do can be a reflection of our adoration of Christ. Our vote is just one of those things. Then after we have rigorously served our Lord and Savior we have the privelege of hearing "Well done good and faithful servant".

@Jeremy Bohall - Thanks for the honest rebuttal. I appreciate your perspective very much. In fact, I think it's a great balance to the Piper perspective on voting. One thing I do believe is that Jesus should be Lord of every nook and cranny of our lives, including who we are as citizens in the voting booth. Thanks for sharing!
